Artwork - We The People

This was for a contest that again I lost but still
the drawing means a lot to me because it was the most difficult drawing
at the time and I was barely getting used to drawing fine detail.
Here's what I wrote January 8, 2009 about the drawing,

so this is what i've been working on all week, it's a really huge drawing and because it's so huge i couldn't get most of drawing so i tried my best but this what i wanted show the most.

if the arm looks off then it's because i used my dad's arm for reference. i just liked how my dad has all these scars, wrinkles and freckles. but i used it to tie-in to the whole message my drawing represents. so on purpose and on accident, i guess. but i'm really happy how the drawing came out.

"We The People"

By Raul Esparza

"We The People" is a drawing that depicts and defines the nation as of right now. We made the difference by bringing change and making history by electing Barack Obama as our president, our leader and our future. It's predictable to say 'United We Stand and Divided We Fall' but isn't this the truth. A divided nation and divided leaders brought America down to her knees in defeat. Selfishness is not the only word that defined us, Americans. But it was clearly what we were and that didn't help our leader. In fact it made our leader and our country vulnerable. We the people were not doing our part and as a nation we stood and watch our sons and daughters die. They gave their lives because they believed in and loved America. But what did we do, we the people failed them by turning our backs to only accuse our leaders of their faults. Hope was just another four letter word and it was something we only dreamed of. Until a senator from Illinois brought a message of his father's dreams, hope and unity. One out of many had to stand up and remind the nation that we the people is what makes America work.
One out of many had to stand up and say, Yes We Can! Because if we fail, they fail and as a nation we all fail. Alone is impossible but together we the people can make the difference, just reach out and help.
